ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has taken all the necessary steps to help flood-affected people of Sindh in collaboration with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and global humanitarian agencies.
This was stated by the Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) here on Monday, while talking to Haleem Adil Sheikh.
The Chairman NDMA said that the authority and international humanitarian agencies distributed 420 tons of wheat, 11,000 tarpaulins, 29,000 tents, and over 2,000 mosquito nets in flood-hit areas of Sindh.
Moreover, the PDMA Sindh during current monsoon operations has provided more than 77,000 tents and 118 dewatering pumps to affected districts of the province.
The chairman NDMA in a meeting with Sheikh who met him to discuss matters regarding relief for flood-affected people of Sindh, said that three life boats and medication for water-borne diseases and 35 ton food had also been distributed to over 8,000 flood-hit families in Sindh.
Afzal assured the parliamentarian that the NDMA would stand by people of affected areas and would continue its support for government and people of Sindh. The chairman said the NDMA would undertake damage assessment of flood-affected areas. Appreciating the proactive role of the NDMA in providing timely relief to affectees of floods in Sindh, Haleem Adil Sheikh said that the NDMA's efforts to muster support of the international community and arranging for food, health and safety items for flood-affected people were highly commendable.
He acknowledged that food items along with medication the NDMA provided were need of the hour to save people from water-borne disease.
