Social Media expert Asad Malik has said that the impact of social media on our daily lives is far greater than we think, as there are 3.2 billion likes and comments made on Facebook each day, 175 million tweets are sent on Twitter a day, the Google+ button is pressed 5 billion times a day, 17 million visitors go on Pinterest a day, nearly 830,000 YouTube videos are uploaded daily, 526 million people sign up for Facebook every day, Google+ increases its number of users by 625,000 a day, 58 photos are uploaded through Instagram every second, StumbleUpon adds 2.2 million pages a day and 300 million photos are uploaded to Facebook each day.
He was addressing a gathering of young people at a local hotel in connection Social Media Day in Pakistan. Asad Malik is the Managing Director of Cresset Technologies. He said latest world-wide surveys suggest that the number of Facebook users has reached to 850 million as of February 2012, followed by 500 million registered users and 200 million active users of Twitter, 135 million users of LinkedIn, 90 million users of Google+ and 10.4 million users of Pinterest. Asad said that social media usage in the Asia has hit through the roof in the recent past, showing exponential growth of over 100 percent. He said more than half of the region's population is active online, with Facebook the most popular social network. Besides the Asia-Pacific, the growth of social media usage is phenomenal in South Asia as well which houses a population size of more than a billion.
