KARACHI: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday said that the recent visits of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) have raised hope amongst the distressed Karachiites about resolution of their socio-economic and administrative issues, should not turn into despair at any cost, amid the emergence of new events.

He said Karachiites pinned no hope from the federal and provincial governments, however, the COAS and CJP are seriously concerned about finding a way out for the lingering woes of the economic lifeline of the country. Kamal said as soon as some political developments came to limelight, the rulers forget about Karachi. “The script of Rs1150 billion Karachi package, announced by the Prime Minister has perhaps lost somewhere.”

Instead of resolving Karachi’s problems, the conscienceless rulers are awaiting for a new disaster to surface. We are afraid that if the problems of Karachi are not resolved this time on a priority basis, people will start blaming the institutions.

The ironic fact of our country is that local bodies were devolved and given authority and resources not by any civilian governments rather by dictators while the so-called claimants of democracy always violated the rights of the people. Even the Supreme Court had to intervene for holding the local body elections. Not for a single day, in civilised societies, local governments get inactivated.

The most important issues fall prey to the ethnic politics. Kamal said, “Sindhis are our brothers and we Muhajir regard them as Ansar, but PPP is pursuing politics of blood in the province to prolong its prejudiced and corrupt rule, which is fuelling hatred. Those who talk of saving motherland from division have fragmented the motherland’s heart - Karachi into 7 parts and that too on ethnic basis.

PSP chief expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Pakistan House. Party President Anis Kaim Khani and members of the Central Executive Committee and National Council were also present on the occasion.

Kamal further said that giving a package to Karachi is like snatching the salary of a labourer and handing him a box of biryani as charity and above that, taking pictures that we helped the oppressed one.
