As the gig economy becomes a new normal, it is important for all the freelancers to use the best available tools to break into a new market.

The first step to breaking into new markets is to get your name out there and advertise your services on the platforms that your target clients are most likely to use. As per US bases financial service company Payoneer, to reach the widest possible audience, it’s important to be affiliated with a global freelance platform, including Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer.com and PeoplePerHour.

Second, on the list is pricing your services when expanding to new markets. Freelancers may not want to reduce their fees by much however, one should know that typical rates might not be applicable in other markets.

“To get a better idea of how different services are priced in a specific country, your best bet is to get involved in community groups, either online or in person, where other members can give you a better idea of how the local marketplace works,” says the platform.

Third on the list is to localize your website, as after determining which countries the freelancer want to target, it’s critical to localize your marketing materials, which can be achieved in a number of ways, i.e. by localizing content, redesigning your site, and translating your site

Freelancers should also learn to utilize social media to its maximum, as it can be use as a great marketing tool.

Creating different social media accounts and, if possible, post in your target country’s native language. will help illustrate your ability to move into new marketplaces.

It is also a good idea to join different social media groups in one’s target country, which can help in learning ways on how to market yourself. One should also work on expanding their network, especially developing relationships with other freelancers in one’s target country is a great way to learn more about the local market. Improved networking also helps out in reaching new clients, which can get your name and brand known in your new marketplace.

A great article indeed, but there is one thing the author forgot to mention - competition. And this is where the fun starts, because even if you're full of enthusiasm and know your trade, once you come around a well-known platform, you meet a lot of competition on two sides. On one side you have professional with good reputation, portfolio and good reviews. They have a solid reputation at the platform and are usually the ones who get the best orders. And on the other side you have people who are in need of any job at all and they offer the lowest prices possible. So either you're outmatched by professionals, or outnumbered by people ready to work dirt cheap. All you can do is persuade the client that your price is not high, but average. But hey, who needs average prices when most people tend to purchase any kind of service for as cheap as possible? One way to solve this problem is to search for places which are less crowded. For instance, one place I found some time ago was Insolvo. And I can't say that it's worse than Upwork or Fiverr. It's fast, reliable, secure and they say there is a good AI observing the place. My point is - don't be afraid to look around. Don't rush to well-known and popular places just because. Risks are high that you won't find place for yourself there.
