KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 175,688 tonnes of cargo comprising 143,147 tonnes of import cargo and 32,541 tonnes of export cargo including 4,382 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargos of 143,147 tonnes comprised of 52,541 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,585 tonnes of bulk cargo; 13,489 tonnes of DAP; 12,132 tonnes of wheat; 11,100 tonnes of rock phosphate and 50,300 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 32,541 tonnes comprised of 8,409 tonnes of containerised cargo; 22,500 tonnes of clinkers and 1,632 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,382 containers comprising of 3,237 containers import and 1,145 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,227 of 20's and 793 of 40's loaded while 02 of 20's and 211 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 106 of 20's and 222 of 40's loaded containers while 173 of 20's and 211 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely OOCL California, Moen Island, KSL Ruiyang and Al Mahboobah carrying containers and chemical respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. Botany Bay, TRF Kristansand and Amagi Galaxy carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.

There is one ship namely TRF Kristansand carrying oil tanker expected to sail on Friday. There are two vessels viz. Oriental Viola and Canadian Highway carrying oil tanker and vehicle respectively due to arrive on Friday while five vessels viz. MSC Cheryl-3, Chemroad Lily, Chem Argon, Yu Jin Ace and Pac Athena carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and general cargo respectively are expected due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 138,932 tonnes comprising 98,285 tonnes of import cargo and 40,647 tonnes of export cargo including 3,934 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 98,285 tonnes tonnes includes 23,500 tonnes of coal; 16,053 tonnes of LNG; 14,500 tonnes of palm oil; 2,000 tonnes of gas oil; 356 tonnes of LPG and 41,876 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 40,647 tonnes includes 6,777 tonnes of cement; 1,000 tonnes of naphtha and 32,870 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,934 containers comprising of 2,204 containers import and 1,730 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There was one ship namely Maersk Sebarok carrying containers sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while four more ships namely Aldi Wave, Athenian, Al Nauman and Banglar Agradool carrying containers, LNG and vegetable oil respectively expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, LPG, LNG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as twelve vessels viz. GS Sky Beauty, Ithoni, SBI Hermes, Gulf Mews, Happy Kosirel, Than Binh-127, Gas Amazon, Fuwairit, Nord Venus, Leader, Al-Soor-II and Melody carrying coal, chemical, cement, LPG, LNG, gasoline, gas oil and furnace oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were three ships viz. Lisa, SBI Hermes and Gulf Mews carrying containers, coal and chemical expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Friday.

There are three ships namely Conti Courage and Esperanza-N carrying containers due to arrive on Saturday while three more ships namely MSC Cheryl, MOL Generosity and Meridian Spirit carrying containers are due to arrive on Sunday.
