ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence Production met here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chaudhry Iftekhar Nazir. The Committee was briefed on establishment of Gwadar shipyard in detail.
Shipyards are directly associated with the economy of a country. The Committee strongly recommended to the federal government to establish the Gwadar shipyard as soon as possible, as at present there was only one shipyard at Karachi in Pakistan.
The Committee was informed that operationalisation of Gwadar port and the CPEC provide us golden opportunity to enter activity in shipbuilding industry.
The official said that Gwadar shipyard would be a game changer, particularly for the prosperity for the people of Balochistan, and towards improved economy of Pakistan.
The Committee was briefed on the up-gradation of technical employees of the Pakistan Ordinance Factories, Wah. The Committee was informed that proposed up-gradation would also require approval of the Finance Division and availability of requisite funds by the Ministry of Defence.
