ISLAMABAD: The Customs Region (North) of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has surpassed the customs duty target assigned for September 2020 by 16 percent.

According to the preliminary figures available here on Thursday, Customs Region (North) collected a total of Rs. 4,832 million during the month of September, 2020. The Region not only achieved but surpassed its Customs Duty target for Sep, 2020 by a hefty margin of Rs. 279 million (16%) by collecting Rs. 2,053 million against the assigned target of Rs. 1,774 million.

Similarly, an amount of Rs. 1,873 million was collected under the head of Sales Tax during the same month. As regards collection of all taxes during Sep, 2020, the Region collected Rs. 4,832 million.

The Customs Region (North) comprises four Collectorates i.e., Model Customs Collectorates of Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, MCC (Appraisement & Facilitation), Peshawar and MCC (Enforcement

& Compliance), Peshawar covering Islamabad/ Rawalpindi, the whole of KP as well as the merged districts of erstwhile FATA.

The performance of MCC (Appraisement), Peshawar stood exceptional during Sep, 2020 as it collected Rs. 1,054 million Customs Duty against the assigned target of Rs. 559 million, showing an increase of Rs. 495 million (45%).

It is pertinent to mention that a major breakthrough during the month was opening of another border point for trade at Angoor Adda on Pak-Afghan border, which became operational on 30.09.2020. The opening of "Angoor Adda" situated at zero point in South Waziristan, Tribal District was made possible through active coordination with other law enforcing agencies & provincial government authorities in line with the vision of the current government to increase and facilitate trade with our brotherly neighbor country Afghanistan.

It is expected that with initiation of cargo clearance from Customs Station, Angoor Adda, South Waziristan, Tribal District, the trade activities are expected to further flourish in coming months thus contributing more revenue to the national exchequer.
