India successfully test fires China focused, nuclear-capable cruise missile

The new missile is capable to strike the target at a range of around 800 kilometers

India on Saturday claimed that they have successfully test-fired an advanced version of Shaurya surface-to-surface nuclear-capable ballistic missile in Odisha.

As per details, the new missile is capable to strike the target at a range of around 800 kilometers.

The Twitter handle of DD News Odia reported that this was the first "user-specific" trial of the Shaurya missile.

The missile is a land variant of submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) K-15, and less vulnerable to anti-ballistic missile defence systems due to it's high maneuverability.

Developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), The Shaurya missile is so agile that enemy radars across the border will have very less time to detect, track and intercept before it hits the target. The missile has unique features of operation and maintenance.

It is powered by solid fuel. It's two stage rockets accelerate the missile to six times the speed of sound before it reaches an altitude of 40 km, only to cruise towards the target. The sleek 10 meter weapon system can be launched both from land and underwater.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has lately carried out a slew of missile tests amid heightened tensions with China along the Line of Actual Control.

In May, dozens of Indian and Chinese soldiers exchanged physical blows on the border in the north-eastern state of Sikkim. And in 2017, the two countries clashed in the region after China tried to extend a border road through a disputed plateau.
