Pakistani state is not part of treason case against Nawaz: Punjab Police

  • Earlier, PM expressed his displeasure over the treason case against Nawaz, other PML-N leaders.
Published October 6, 2020

The Lahore police said on Tuesday that the treason case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leaders has not been filed by the state.

Denying the rumors that the case was registered at the behest of the state or any of its institutions, the police said action will be taken only against those found guilty of the charges.

On Monday, an FIR was registered against the PML-N leader for making provocative speeches in London against Pakistan's high courts and armed forces in front of the international community.

Treason case filed against Nawaz, Maryam for conspiring against Pakistan’s state institutions

The complainant Badar Rasheed, alleged that in the recent speeches, Sharif supported the policies of India, so that Pakistan would continue to remain on the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) 'grey list'. The aim of Sharif's speeches is also to divert attention from human rights violations in occupied Kashmir, the complainant said.

Following this, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said Prime Minister Imran Khan was unhappy with the registration of the case. Chaudhry said the PM was not aware of any such FIR, and when he brought it to his knowledge he was displeased.

Similarly, SAPM on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill also took to Twitter and said that the government had nothing to do with the FIR.
