KU staffers' sons among 10 being investigated for harassing two students

  • Police say KU is investigating the matter internally and no one from the administration had approached them, nor had the students who were harassed
Published October 8, 2020

(Karachi) At least 10 people, including Karachi University staffers' sons, are being investigated for their alleged involvement in harassing two IBA students inside the premises of Karachi University, media reported on Thursday.

As per details, on October 5, a student, Shaheer Ali, had gone to drop his female friend back to the IBA hostel situated in the varsity. While he was on way, at least to 10 young men riding four motorcycles began to follow them.

After a while, the accused tried to intercept the car signalling the female student to get out. They also pounded on the windows, screaming for the girl to get out. However, Ali did not stop the car and drove it to the main gate where security guards were stationed.

Meanwhile, the police said that the KU is investigating the matter internally and that no one from the administration had approached them, nor had the students who were harassed.

The investigation is being headed by Security adviser Dr Moiz Khan. He said they have identified the 10 men involved in the incident. Most of them are the sons of staff members of the varsity, he mentioned.

A hashtag of #Karachiuniversityisnotsafe popped up on twitter and trended on social media after the University of Karachi (KU) initiated an investigation of the harassment incident. People condemned the incident and raised question marks over security situation at KU campus.
