ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Privatization Muhammadmian Soomro visited the NAVTTC Headquarters, said a press release issued on Thursday. On the occasion, presentation was given to the federal minister about the vision, mandate and objectives and implementation strategy of the National Vocational and technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).

Chairman NAVTTC Syed Javed Hassan, on this occasion, said the NAVTTC along with the provincial TEVT sector and international agencies was trying its utmost to change the TVET landscape in Pakistan by bringing it at par with international standards, which would enhance employability of our youth in the international market, thus, increasing the image of Pakistani skilled workers worldwide, and giving huge boost in foreign remittances.

Dr Nasir Khan, executive director, NAVTTC briefed the minister on progress and development of the ongoing "Hunarmand Pakistan" programme.

"Hunarmand Pakistan programme is one of the most important components of Kamyab Jawan, which was launched by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. This mega project is the hallmark of the NAVTTC both in terms of youth empowerment and industrial growth of the country," said Dr Khan.

The programme envisages 14 comprehensive components aimed at enhancing the skills of youth through quality professional skill-based training. Dr Nasir Khan informed the minister that under the "Hunarmand Pakistan Programme" 50,000 workers will get certified under the umbrella of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Under this component more than 40,000 youth have already been certified. In order to bring the TEVT sector at par with the international standards, standardization of 200 qualifications is the main objective.

Dr Khan apprised the minister about the introduction of Matric-Tech as the third stream of education, which will be launched in 15 schools of the ICT, the AJK and the GB in its pilot phase, with the objective to integrate vocational and technical education and training with conventional education.

"The NAVTCC has developed the 'National Skills for All' Strategy. Starting from 2019, it has guided interventions in skills development in Pakistan," Dr Khan said.

Muhammadmian Soomro, Federal Minister for Privatization appreciated the efforts of the NAVTTC especially the 14 areas of interventions under the Prime Minister's Hunarmand programme and pointed out that such steps will play a part in conversion of all traditional skills training programmes into competency-based training and assessment and creating a paradigm shift not only in improving quality of vocational and technical training but also creating wider range of employability. Federal Minister for Privatization Mian Muhammad Soomro appreciated the efforts of NAVTTC for reforming and modernizing TEVT sector in Pakistan.-PR
