PESHAWAR: President of Goldsmith of Anjuman-i-Zagaran, Jalsai district Swabi was deprived of Rs 2.4 million in broad daylight dacoity in an area of Chota Lahor Tehsil on Sunday.
Within the last few days, it was the second incident. Earlier such incident occurred in Kalu Khan, Tehsil Razaar when robbers looted a shop of medicine at gunpoint.
Haji Ahmad Ali, president of the union said that he was busy in working in his shop and suddenly two people with covered faces reached on a motorcycle and holding pistols in their hands forced their way into his shop.
“They threatened to kill me ordered me to stay silent, face the wall, and started collecting gold and cash,” he said.
The collected Rs 1900000 worth of gold, Rs 25000 worth silver, Rs 400000 cash, his pistol, precious mobile and disappeared on their bike within no time. He registered an FIR against unidentified robbers in Chota Lahor police station. When contacted, police said that they have started investigations.
The district Sarafa and Jewellers Association members held an emergency meeting in Jalsai and demanded that the two robbers should be traced, arrested and recover the snatched gold, cash and other materials from them by police.
The meeting presided over by the president of the association, Rawaz Ali Yousafzai, and its members from across the district participated and expressed their anger.
The union leaders said that they were shaken by the incident and demanded full-fledged security to continue their work and earn their livelihood with dignity and honour.
Yousafzai told this correspondent: “If the police failed to meet their genuine demands then they would adopt a new line of action while demanding the security umbrella to work without fear.”
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed when his bike collided with a auto-rickshaw on Sunday, said police.
The incident was occurred on Swabi-Mardan road and the deceased were identified as Asif Zia, 22. An FIR has been registered against the driver in Kalu Khan police station.
People belonging to o different walks of life were expressing deep concern on the poor law and order situation in the district.
