ISLAMABAD: The Power Division is reportedly facing uproar in the ranks of senior engineers in National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) for ignoring them in the selection process of new MD of the company.

Many engineers have sent their grievances to the ministry, saying that they joined Wapda in 1985 and later on were promoted to higher positions of the company.

According to the letter, they have applied for the post of Managing Director (NTDC) and they have learnt that the interview call letters were issued on Sep 29, but till date they have not been intimated.

The NTDC general managers are selected and short-listed for interview on the basis of their education, additional and other sector duties to ensure their eligibility for issuance of interview call letter. To qualify a duration of 3-years of substantial requirement of BPS - 20 grade service is required.

One of the aggrieved engineers maintained that the general managers who have been short-listed within NTDC are junior to him as per their date of joining i.e. 1992. Previously in 2018 and 2019, senior engineers were issued interview call letters for the post of MD (NTDC) but the process did not mature; and inexplicably they have not received any call letters for the current interview calls. "Exclusion of the undersigned from the subject interview will not only reduce the healthy competition but will also narrow the spectrum of the NTDC experienced lot who deserve to be interviewed," the aggrieved engineer added.

Another senior engineer told Business Recorder that NTDC Board short-listed candidates not on merit, seniority and experience but on personal like/dislike.

He said, relevant high voltage field experience for 20 years is required for this post where as senior most GM with this experience was not short-listed. He further stated that a candidate with a Phd in radio frequency and 18 year experience, with 8 year teaching stint, was short-listed even though his education and experience were not relevant to the position.
