LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday allowed the police to shift prime suspect Abid Malhi in motorway gang-rape incident to jail for his identification parade and directed the Investigating Officer (IO) to submit a report on October 27.
The police produced Abid Malhi and co-suspect Shafqat Ali alias Bagga before the court amid strict security arrangements. Earlier, Investigating Officer Inspector Zulfiqar Ali sought permission to shift the prime suspect to judicial lockup for the purpose of his identification parade.
Presiding Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta accordingly allowed the police to shift the suspect to judicial lockup for 14 days and directed the jail authorities to make special arrangements so the identity of the suspect could not be disclosed to other inmates.
Meanwhile, the IO sought 30-day physical remand of co-suspect Shafqat for the purpose of recovery of weapon of the offence and interrogation. The presiding judge however allowed only a 15-day physical remand of the co-suspect and directed the police to produce him again on October 28.
