ISLAMABAD: The Scrutiny Committee of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is unlikely to meet the deadline given by the commission to complete proceedings of Foreign Funding case and submit the related report by the mid of ongoing month of October.
Currently, the Scrutiny Committee is in the process of re-examining the evidence submitted by three major political parties, an exercise that is not likely to complete by the given deadline, it is learnt.
The Scrutiny Committee had earlier submitted its report to the ECP but the commission had rejected this report on August 27, 2020, and termed it incomplete and directed the committee to refurnish the report by mid of October.
The committee is re-examining the evidence provided by the three major political parties-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Business Recorder has learnt.
In November 2014, Akbar Sher Babar, one of the founding members of PTI, moved the ECP accusing the PTI of being a foreign funded party and seeking action against it in accordance with related constitutional provisions. In March 2018, the ECP formed the Scrutiny Committee to scrutinize the funds of PTI and to submit its report in a month but the committee could not furnish its report within the given timeline.
