ISLAMABAD: Prices of essential kitchen items have witnessed further hike during this week past against the preceding week, a survey carried out by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
The survey noted an increase in egg prices, which jumped from Rs 160 per dozen to Rs 162 per dozen in wholesale market, sugar price jumped further from Rs 4,810 per 50kg bag to Rs 4,900 per 50kg bag, making it the all times high wholesale price, chicken price also witnessed further increase from Rs 6,600 per 40kg to Rs 7,000 per 40kg.
Ghee/cooking oil prices also jumped further as good quality ghee/cooking oil price jumped from Rs 250 per litre to Rs 260 per litre, basmati and other brands of rice prices also went up.
Traders told this correspondent that in the absence of no check and balance, everyone is free to charge whatsoever prices they like.
The survey observed that government-sponsored wheat flour bag of 20kg costing Rs 860 is not available on majority of the shops, and is even short on Utility Stores Corporation (USC) outlets.
Same is the situation with sugar availability on USC outlets, and the commodity is not available to the masses on subsidised rates as a result they are compelled to purchase expensive sugar from open market at Rs 110-115 per kg.
Wheat flour price remained stable at Rs990 per 15kg bag, which in retail is being sold at Rs 70 per kg, sugar in retail is being sold in the range of Rs 110 per kg to Rs 115 per kg, chicken in retail is being sold at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 190 per kg, chicken meat is being sold at Rs320 per kg against Rs 300 per kg.
Normal quality ghee/cooking oil price jumped from Rs 2,630 per carton to Rs 2,730 per carton, which in retail is being sold at Rs185 per pack of 900 grams against Rs 180 per pack of 900 grams.
Tomatoes price went slightly down from Rs 525 per 5kg to Rs 475 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 100-110 per kg against Rs110-125 per kg, and eggs at Rs180 per dozen against Rs 170 per dozen.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices over the period of past one week were increased twice as domestic cylinder of 11.8kg price jumped from Rs 1,450 per cylinder to Rs 1,570 per cylinder.
However, during the week under review, pulses’ prices remained stable as moong is being sold at Rs 240 per kg, lentil mash at Rs 240 per kg, lentil gram at Rs 140 per kg, best quality bean lentil from at Rs260 per kg, masoor lentil at Rs 140 per kg, and whole gram lentil at Rs 150 per kg.
No changes were witnessed in milk prices during the week under review as packed milk prices including Nestle milk pack and Olpers are being sold at Rs 40 per 200 ml pack.
Spices prices are stable at Rs 75 per 25 gram pack, while red chilli powder price reduced from Rs 1,000 per kg to Rs 850 per kg, and turmeric powder price at Rs 380 per kg.
The survey observed mixed trend in the prices of vegetables as spinach price went down from Rs 30 per kg to Rs 25 per bundle, and peas price went further down from Rs 1,100 per 5kg to Rs 900 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs190 per kg against Rs 240 per kg.
Ginger prices in wholesale market went down from Rs 2,500 per 5kg Rs 2,100 per 5kg, while in retail it is being sold at Rs450 per kg against Rs600 per kg.
Garlic prices went down from Rs 700 per 5kg to Rs 650 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 180 per kg.
Bean price went down from Rs 430 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 95-100 per kg, pumpkin price went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, okra price went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs60 per kg, bitter gourd price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 275 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 65 per kg.
Capsicum price went down from Rs950 per 5kg to Rs 680 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs160 per kg against Rs 220 per kg, tinda price is stable at Rs 500 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 120 per kg. Cauliflower price jumped from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 260 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, cabbage price also went up from Rs 170 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, yam price jumped from Rs 275 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 70 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed a mixed trend as best quality Gaja apple was being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 110 per kg, best quality Golden Apple at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 95 per kg, best quality Pakistani banana at Rs 90 per dozen against Rs 55 per dozen, while normal at Rs 50-60 per dozen against Rs 35-45 per dozen, best quality grapes at Rs300 per kg, while normal in the range of Rs 150-200 per kg.
Guava price went up from Rs 65 per kg to Rs 80 per kg, while sweet orange price witnessed no change, which is being sold at Rs 150 per dozen.
New arrival pomegranate price went down from Rs 175 per kg to Rs 160 per kg, and Japani fruit price went down Rs 80 per kg to Rs 70 per kg.
