The German football federation DFB will use goal-line technology rather than additional assistant referees in the future, DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach said on Saturday. "The DFB and the football league (DFL) are in favour of the introduction. We agree with our referees that we, unlike UEFA, don't want the goal-line referees," Niersbach said at a referee event in Altensteig-Wart.
Niersbach said that goal-line technology will be not applied before the 2013-14 season, and that it won't be used in the German cup because it is to expensive to install for amateur clubs.
The International football Association Board last week agreed to the introduction of goal-line technology which is to help the referee determine whether a ball has crossed the line or not.
The European governing body UEFA prefers its use of two additional assistant referees, which was also approved by the IFAB. UEFA president Michel Platini opposes goal-line technology.
