The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised green gram (Moong) growers that sandy loam soil is good for the cultivation of the crop. A spokesman for the department said on Sunday that farmers should sow approved varieties like Nayyab Moong 2006, Nayyab Moong 2011 in irrigated land and sow Chakwal M-6 in rain-fed areas and keep the ratio of 12 Kg seeds per acre of land.
He also asked the growers of rain-fed areas to adopt precautionary measures keeping in view the monsoon to save their crops from rain. Farmers should use one sack of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and a half sack of potassium sulphate at the time of sowing, it added.
