LAHORE: Balochistan National Party-Mengal head Sardar Akhtar Mengal met PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz at her Raiwind residence on Tuesday and deliberated upon issues related to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and its future plan of action against the sitting government.
During the meeting, both discussed the overall political situation of the country and expressed concern over soaring inflation and plight of the countrymen. Other issues of political importance also came under discussion. Mengal praised Maryam for forcefully raising the issue of missing persons in PDM's Quetta rally, the sources said.
Talking to media, Akhtar Mengal said they made a six-point agreement with the ruling PTI, "we were walking along with them, they were just crawling; it was not our responsibility to carry them on our shoulders."
When asked about the demand of holding CPEC Authority Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa accountable, he remarked, "We do not want to eat pizza."
He said the government has opened fronts against them, but they would not bow down and raise every issue in PDM summit, which is being called shortly.
When asked whether Prime Minister Imran Khan is powerless or failed to execute the deal, Mengal replied, "It was easier than Metro [Peshawar BRT]."
He recalled his National Assembly speech wherein he had announced the decision to quit the ruling coalition at the Centre mentioning that the public mandate was stolen in the 2018 general elections.
Responding to query about threat to democracy due to PDM's struggle, Mengal said: "Is there democracy in the country."
He stressed that in democracy, neither there are restrictions on media nor are journalists kidnapped. About the reports of differences over the hard-line adopted by PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Mengal said they (PML-N) were the original writers of the narrative.
Mengal also condemned the Peshawar blast and termed it failure of the government. Moreover, Maryam Nawaz is scheduled to visit Gilgit-Baltistan from November 4, to oversee the PML-N's election campaign. Ahsan Iqbal, Marriyum Aurangzeb and other party leaders will accompany Maryam during this visit.
