Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Zulfiqar Khosa has said that Punjab government has finalized plan to fight floods in monsoon season. He added that besides repair and reconstruction of 16-mile long embankments in district Layyah at a cost of more than 270 million rupees, construction of new Kukarwala Bund, setting up of relief camps and other measures are a part of the plan.
He said the government was utilizing all available resources for the provision of necessary facilities to the residents of low-lying areas.
This was stated by him during inspection of flood protection embankments and relief camps in district Layyah. Provincial Minister Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh, MNA Syed Saqlain Shah Bukhari, MPA Mehr Ahmad Achlana, Commissioner DG Khan, Tariq Mehmood Khan and other were also present.
During a briefing to Khosa regarding construction of five miles long embankment at a cost of 12 crore rupees to protect Layyah city it was informed that during the floods of 2010, district administration and irrigation department had constructed a temporary embankment at Kukarwala which after the approval of the Chief Minister was being strengthened. Khosa inspected Shahwala Green Bund and Khanwala Spur and directed to further strengthen it.
