ISLAMABAD: Coronavirus pandemic claimed the lives of 17 more persons in Pakistan (till Sunday evening) with the total number of Covid-19 related deaths having reached 6,823 in the country and the number of active coronavirus cases was recorded at 12,592 .
According to data issued by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), some 977 more people tested positive for COVID 19 after the tests of 27,665 persons over the last 24 hours (till Sunday evening). In the federal capital, the number of coronavirus related deaths reached 222 and the number of active COVID 19 cases was recorded at 1,689.
Meanwhile, NCOC has directed the authorities concerned to ensure enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adherence to safety guidelines in the wake of alarming rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan
According to a press release, the NCOC which met in Islamabad took a detailed review of epidemic curve chart data, prevailing positivity ratio of COVID-19, micro and smart lockdown imposed and implementation of the SOPs.
The forum was informed that the positivity ratio of coronavirus cases is surging for the past three weeks whereas all other indicators are showing a rising trend, the press release said.
The NCOC decided that no complacency in adherence to SOPs, particularly mask wearing and social distancing can be allowed as it might escalate the contagion, it added.
The meeting also decided to launch effective media campaign for education and awareness of masses with messages emphasizing strict compliance of SOPs by the masses during their outdoors activities.
