Karachi reports more than half of total 443 COVID-19 cases in Sindh today

Sharing the data, the minister said that 9,784 samples were tested in 24 hours in the province, out of which 443 came positive. The total tally reaches 146,774 in the province.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday said 443 new cases reported in Sindh over last 24 hours, with more than half of the tally detected in Karachi.

Sharing the data, the minister said that 9,784 samples were tested in 24 hours in the province, out of which 443 came positive. The total tally reaches 146,774 in the province.

The CM shared the total number of cases recovered from the infection, including 195 just today, to be 138,974.

“Two people also lost their lives owing to COVID-19,” the chief minister said during a routine daily briefing on the virus as the overall death toll in the province has reached up to 2,633.

Out of the total 443 cases, 289 belong to Karachi, which is more than a half.

He further broke up the figures across Karachi citing 90 cases from District South, 83 from East, followed with 48 in the Center. 40 cases from Malir, 18 from Korangi while 10 in the District West.

Currently, 4555 patients have been under treatment across the province, Chief Minister Shah said.

The chief minister urged the people of the province to observe SOPs strictly.

Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar, who heads NCOC, sought out recommendation from NCC tomorrow to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country,.

In a tweet on Monday, the minister said that National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) discussed additional measures today to control the rising spread of COVID-19.

"Recommendations will be tabled in the NCC being called for tomorrow," he continued. "Need to take immediate measures which have the most impact on disease spread without curtailing economic activity." Pakistan's positivity rate surged past 4% on Sunday - the highest since August. The country recorded 1,123 new Covid-19 cases in a single day. At least 12 people succumbed to the virus.

So far, Sindh has reported 146,774 cases, Punjab 104,554, KP 39,649 and Balochistan has recorded 15,954 infections. Similarly, Islamabad has reported 20,089 cases, Azad Kashmir 4,237, and Gilgit-Baltistan has confirmed 4,279 cases.
