LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab General Secretary Ch Manzoor Ahmed has said that the PPP fully supports demands of farmers in Punjab, adding that the arrest of peaceful farmers by the police is highly deplorable.
He condemned police violence and arrests of farmers, demanding an immediate release of the arrested ones.
Addressing a press conference at Chairing Cross on Wednesday, he said the government believes in violence, therefore, it has no option but to pack up. He said every segment of the society is on streets due to anti-people policies of the government. Public servants, doctors, lawyers, media workers and civil society are holding protest on daily basis, he added.
He also criticised the federal government for its bad management in dealing with the flour crisis. He said middlemen had smuggled wheat to Afghanistan while the government was totally unaware about it.
According to him, the Punjab food department has become a hub of corruption and it has failed to control exploitation of farmers at the hands of mafia. He said a similar exploitation was observed by sugar mafia against sugarcane growers. Ch Manzoor urged the government to immediately accept all the demands of farmers. It may be not d that the PPP’s Sindh government has announced Rs 2000 per maund support price of wheat last week against Rs 1600 per maund by the federal government.
Meanwhile, the PPP has also condemned attack on AAJ News team. It said the attack on the AAJ TV team and damaging its DSNG is highly condemnable. Ch Manzoor said the PTI government was involved in strangulating media since the day it has come into power.
