ISLAMABAD: After a steady rise in the last week, over 1,000 Covid-19 cases were reported daily in Pakistan during the past five days, according to the data shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and the provincial authorities.

According to the NCOC, during the past 24 hours, countrywide 1,345 more people were tested positive for the deadly virus and 33 deaths were recorded of which 17 in Sindh, five each in Punjab and Islamabad, and three each in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Following the emergence of 1,345 fresh cases, the total active Covid-19 cases in Pakistan on Thursday were recorded at 15,954.

According to the NCOC, Pakistan has registered 33 deaths due to Covid-19 which are the highest in the past three months as on July 31 the country registered 27 deaths, after that the cases started steadily declining but within the past few weeks, the cases have once more witnessed an increase.

According to the District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad, the authorities have sealed two educational institutes in the federal capital following emergence of four cases. The DHO office said over the past 24 hours, Islamabad registered 223 new cases taking the total to 20,694, and five more people died of Covid-19, taking the death tally to 229.

The total tests conducted in the past 24 hours were 6,449 with 3.4 percent positive rate. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, the province has reported 338 coronavirus cases and five deaths during the last 24 hours.

The provincial total of Covid-19 cases has risen to 105,535, while the death toll is 2,385, while 97,532 people have recovered. According to a statement issued by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the province has registered 556 new cases of the coronavirus, the highest daily jump in infections since July 29, when the province registered 654 cases.

Sindh's case tally now stands at 148,343, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said in a statement. The province also recorded 17 deaths during the past 24 hours, a three-month record. The last time Sindh had more deaths was on July 30th. The provincial death toll has risen to 2,664.

A total of 11,530 tests were carried out during the last 24 hours, showing that Sindh's positive rate has climbed to nearly five per cent. According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, the province over the past 24 hours recorded 133 new cases taking the total to 40,022 cases.

The province recorded three new deaths in the last 24 hours, keeping the total to 1,284 deaths. While 25 more patients recovered in the province taking the tally to 37,829 recoveries, and 909 patients are active Covid-19 positive in the KP. According to the Health Ministry of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the Kashmir region over the past 24 hours registered 81 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths taking the Covid-19 cases to 4,465, and the death tally to 107. According to the NCOC, the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region has confirmed 14 new Covid-19 cases, while no deaths.
