ISLAMABAD: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Reza Baqir Friday briefed Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi about the performance of the SBP; increase in foreign exchange and other economic indicators. The SBP governor called on the foreign minister at his office and exchanged views on the country's overall economic situation, and other important issues, according to a statement issued by media team of the foreign minister.
In his remarks, Qureshi stated that the increase in foreign exchange amid the coronavirus pandemic reflected overseas Pakistanis' trust in the economic policies of the current government, adding that economies of the developing countries such as Pakistan had suffered badly due to the pandemic.
He said continuation of the GSP Plus status for Pakistan by the European Union (EU), appreciation of the rupee and other economic indicators signify that "the government is heading in the right direction".
Qureshi further stated that through economic diplomacy, Pakistan's ambassadors abroad were promoting investment opportunities in the country, and the government's business-friendly policies across the world. "The government will soon overcome the economic challenges facing the country," the foreign minister expressed his hope.
