ISLAMABAD: The federal capital has witnessed significant increase in incidents of robberies, snatchings at gunpoint, and auto theft during the last week.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder, the city’s various police stations registered over 13 cases of vehicle thefts including motor bikes, 11 cases of theft including robbery and snatchings at gunpoint, and one case each of kidnapping and murder, during the last week.

The most active areas for the criminal’s gangs were within the limits of Ramna, Sihala and Industrial Area police stations in the same period. During the last week, Ramna police station registered four cases of motor vehicle theft. Carjackers stole a car (RIQ-7235) belonging to Pehlawan Shah worth Rs250,000 lifted a bike (RIQ-5269) belonging to Muhammad Hussain worth Rs80,000, lifted another bike (ARQ-579) belonging to Shams Zaman, and stole a car (APX-384) belonging to Amad Khan worth Rs2,200,000.

Similarly, two cases each of robbery, and one case of car lifting were reported to Sihala police station during the last week. Umer Farooq lodged a complaint with Sihala police station that a pickpocketeer stole cash Rs550,000 from his pocket.

Another, Hassan Nawaz registered a complaint with Sihala police station that unknown robbers broke locks of his house, and looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs800,000. Auto thieves stole a car bearing registration number AJK-092ber AJK-092 belonging to Shahid Kaleem worth Rs1,800,000 from the limits of the same police station.
