ISLAMABAD: The total active Covid-19 cases in Pakistan on Tuesday crossing 20,000 mark reached 21,177 as Sindh, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) reported 825 new Covid-19 cases.
According to the latest data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and the provincial authorities, at least 30 people lost their lives countrywide owing to Covid-19. The data said that 11 people died in Punjab, four in KP, three in Sindh, two in the AJK and three of them in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
According to the data, the Covid-19 deaths have crossed 7,000 mark in Pakistan and reached 7,007 on Tuesday evening, since the start of the contagion. According to data, 2,690 people died due to the coronavirus in Sindh, 2,420 in the Punjab, 1,294 in the KP, 244 in the ICT, 154 in Balochistan, 93 in the G-B, and 114 in the AJK, two of them reported on Tuesday evening. No Covid-19 affected person was on ventilator in the AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and Balochistan, while 177 ventilators were occupied elsewhere in Pakistan, out of 1,855 ventilators allocated for Covid-19 patients.
With the second wave of Covid-19 intensifying, the Punjab has reported more than 400 daily cases for the first time since July. The government's coronavirus portal shows that Punjab recorded 407 new infections in the last 24 hours, taking its total to 107,329.
The province last reported more than 400 cases on July 18, when it confirmed 442 infections. The province has also reported 12 more deaths from the virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 2,420. Sindh reported 518 new cases of coronavirus, raising the provincial tally to 151,352.
Moreover, the daily statement issued from the Chief Minister's Office confirmed the deaths of three more persons due to the virus. The death toll now stands at 2,690. According to the statement, 9,273 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, of which 518 persons tested positive.
This returned a positivity rate of 5.5 per cent. According to the KP Health Department, 226 new cases were confirmed taking the total to 41,069 cases. The province reported four new deaths in the last 24 hours taking the total to 1,294 people.
While 174 more patients recovered taking the tally to 38,342. Active cases in KP are 1,433. Over 311,00 people have recovered from the disease so far across the country making it a significant count with over 90 percent recovery ratio of the affected patients. Since the pandemic outbreak, a total of 346,746 cases were detected so far, including the AJK 4,911, Balochistan 16,152, G-B 4,378, ICT 22,110, KP 41,027, Punjab 107,329, and Sindh 151,352.
Over 4,771,507 corona tests have been conducted so far, while 736 hospitals are equipped with Covid-19 treatment facilities. Some 1,181 corona patients were admitted in hospitals across the country. Meanwhile, the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR has provided cash assistance to over 50,000 families of Afghan refugees in Pakistan who were impacted by the novel coronavirus.
According to a press release issued by the UNHCR, the agency has collaborated with the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions and the Pakistan Post to distribute aid and is aiming to reach 70,000 families.
