(Karachi) The US Embassy in Islamabad on Wednesday issued an apology over retweeting derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Imran Khan. The apology statement comes after social media users demanded explanation from the US Embassy over its action.

In a tweet, the US Embassy stated that the U.S. Embassy Islamabad Twitter account was accessed last night without authorization. It added, "The U.S. Embassy does not endorse the posting or retweeting of political messages. We apologize for any confusion that may have resulted from the unauthorized post."

Commenting on the statement by US Embassy, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari said that the apology by the embassy after a great delay is not a good move. she stated, "Account was clearly not hacked so someone who had access to it used it "without authorisation". Unacceptable that someone working in US Embassy pushing a particular pol party's agenda - has serious consequences incl staff visas scrutiny."

As per details, the offensive comments were made by PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal, saying: "We have one in Pakistan too. He will be shown way out soon, Insha Allah!"

The US Embassy shared the same on its twitter handle but deleted it after a few minutes. Criticism and condemnation poured in after the retweet as twitter handlers termed the US Embassy's move a brazen act of interfering in Pakistan's internal matters which is unacceptable.

Most social media users were of the view that Pakistan is a sovereign state and no one should be allowed to indulge in its internal matters while some stated that American agents sitting in Islamabad Embassy are betraying the US President by pointing fingers at the Pakistani government and its prime minister.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail also recorded the retweet on his video as a proof.
