SBP blocks payment for subscribing to India’s Zee5

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has imposed a ban on payment for subscribing to India's Zee5 online streaming video platform.
According to details, the SBP has blocked the payment of India's Zee5 online streaming video application. The SBP says the ban was imposed at the behest of the federal government.
“We are in receipt of a letter from Cabinet Division, Government of Pakistan whereby they have instructed to stop different modes of payment including credit cards for subscribing Indian content in Pakistan including Zee5 video-on-demand service,” read an SBP letter to the Presidents/CEOs of all Banks, EMIs, PSO/PSPs.
“In this regard, it is advised to ensure meticulous compliance of aforementioned instructions of Government of Pakistan and submit compliance status to PSD, SBP by November 13, 2020,” the letter added.
It is pertinent to inform that ZEE5 is an Indian video on-demand service run by Essel Group via its subsidiary Zee Entertainment Enterprises. It was launched in India on 14 February 2018 with content in 12 languages. The ZEE5 mobile app is available on the Web, Android, iOS, Smart TVs, among other devices.
