ISLAMABAD: The federal government has granted additional charge of Chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to Nadir Mumtaz Warraich, an officer of BS-22 IRS, after expiry of term of permanent Chairman, official sources told Business Recorder.
The Maritime Affairs Division briefed the Cabinet that Karachi Port Trust is governed by KPT Act, 1886 and provides for the management of the affairs of the port through a Board of Trustees.
According to Section 5 of the Act the Board of Trustees shall consist of eleven members, whereas Section-6 of the Act provides that the Federal Government shall appoint a person to be Chairman of the Board, who will be Trustee and may or may not be a public officer.
Section-11 of the Act further provides that the Chairman shall hold office for such period as the Federal Government may from time to time decide.
