At least 11 people including a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) leader, a police sub-inspector and head constable were killed in different areas of the city here on Thursday, police and rescue sources said. A local JUI-F leader was gunned down by unknown attackers outside a mosque near Valika hospital in the limits of Site industrial area police station.
The deceased was identified as Maulana Abdul Rehman, who was also prayer leader of Mohammadi Masjid located in the same area. Police said that unidentified armed men intercepted Abdul Rehman outside the mosque after Fajar prayer and shot and injured him. The area people rushed him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where doctor pronounced him dead on arrival. The body was handed over to the heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities. Police registered an FIR against unknown accused and started probe into the incident.
In another incident, unknown armed men gunned down a police sub inspector and head constable, who were on the way to somewhere in a motorcycle, at Nishtar Road in the limits of Soldier Bazaar police station. The victims were identified as sub inspector Munir Kolachi and head constable Abdul Hafeez. The body of Kolachi was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital while Hafeez body was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi for legal formalities.
Police said both the victims were deployed at Pak Colony police station. In another incident, a man, identified as Asif, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Shoe Market area in the limits of Garden police station. Police said the deceased was shot from point blank range by armed bandits, leaving him dead on the spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities. No case was registered till filing of this report. Separately, a man was killed in a firing incident in the wee hours of Thursday in Metrovile area in the jurisdiction of Site police station.
The deceased was identified as Naeem, son of Wahab. Police said Naeem, who was employee of State Bank of Pakistan, was on the way to office when unknown armed men riding motorbikes came close to him and opened fire. As a result, he received severe injuries which proved fatal. A man, Mohammad, son of Jalal, was killed in Korangi, Sector 5-C near Baldia School in the limits of Zaman Town police station. Police said the victim was on his way to somewhere when unknown bandits killed him with multiple gun shots.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsy. Meanwhile, an JSQM activist was gunned down in the limits of Khokhrapar police station. He was identified as Qadeer alias Lal, s/o Mohammad Ismail. In Sohrab Goth area, a woman, Ansar Bibi, was shot dead by dacoits at her home falling in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. Police said that unknown armed bandits barged into her house for dacoity. When she offered resistance, the bandits shot her from point blank range and fled. The body was shifted to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities.
In yet another incident, a customer was killed when he offered resistance to a robbery bid at Ghafoor Sweet, located in Landhi No 6 area, in the limits of Landhi police station. The deceased was identified as Shakir, son of Noor Ahmad. Police said that after the killing of Shakir, area people caught the two robbers and beaten them up severely.
Police said that robbers were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in unconsciousness condition for treatment. The identity of the injured robbers could not be ascertained. No case was registered till filing of this report. Sohrab Goth police also found a body of young girl in Sohrab Goth area. Her identity could not be ascertained.
Unknown armed men targeted three people at Petal Gali in Gulbahar area. The victims, who were identified as Shahid, Saad and Naveed, received bullet injures and were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Later, Naveed succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
In another incident, some unidentified men hurled a hand grenade at a police check post located in Raees Amrohi Colony, Orangi Town. No causality was reported. SSP West Aamir Farooqui said the attack was a reaction to police raid on drug peddlers' den conducted early Thursday morning.
