The joint efforts of the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue (DG I&I IR) Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Customs department have resulted in seizure of huge quantity of non-duty paid smuggled cigarettes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
It has been reliably learnt here on Thursday that co-ordinated efforts of the Customs department and DG I&I IR had resulted in a successful operation against the smugglers of non-duty paid cigarettes. In this connection, the Customs department Peshawar and DG I&I IR jointly conducted an anti-smuggling operation in the KPK.
The key role has been played by the Customs department Peshawar which promptly acted upon the information given by the Directorate of Intelligence IR for immediate response to conduct operation against the smugglers of cigarettes. Such kinds of co-operation between the two organisations can prevent revenue loss to the national exchequer and result in extraordinary performance in the field formations.
According to the sources, two sister originations can jointly take steps against smugglers by sharing intelligence network. Details revealed that the DG I&I IR had received information about the presence of huge quantity of the non-duty paid Pine cigarettes in a truck in Peshawar. This information was given by an informer.
The DG I&I IR had found a vehicle carrying 88 cartons of Pine Cigarettes and immediately communicated this to its sister organisation, ie Customs Department. The DG I&I IR shared this information with the Model Customs Collectorate Customs House Peshawar. The officials of the directorate of intelligence IR chased the vehicle but the smugglers changed the route to evade the authorities.
The directorate of intelligence IR informed the MCC Peshawar to take action and intercept the vehicle. The DG I&I immediately intercepted the vehicle and found huge quantity of non-duty paid smuggled cigarettes at the Ring Road Peshawar. The Model Customs Collectorate Customs House Peshawar has written a letter to the Directorate of Intelligence IR appreciating sharing of information by Altaf Hussain (Inspector) of the DG I&I IR which led to the seizure of 88 cartons of Pine cigarettes by the customs staff.
