KARACHI: The annual elections of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the year 2021 will be held Wednesday (Dec 30).
Candidates of Businessman Panel (BMP) and United Business Group (UBG) are contesting and some 350 registered voters will cast their votes.
Adeel Siddiqui of UBG from Sindh has been elected unopposed as Vice President, Sindh Chamber Class FPCCI. Farzana Ahmed Ali from Quetta has also been elected unopposed on women seat. Both panels are claiming that Farzana belongs to their group.
Polling will continue from 9am to 5:30pm with one-hour break for lunch and prayers. Some three polling booths have been set up for the voting and three ballot boxes will be used.
Polling will be held for the slot of President, Senior Vice President, Vice President (FATA, Federal Areas), Vice President (KPK), Vice President (Punjab), Vice President (Small Chamber), Vice President (Association) and Vice President (Balochistan).
Vote counting will start right after the voting process and result is expected to be announced around 10pm. Ali Raheem, Shahid Waseem and Arshad Khurshid are members of the election committee.
Both groups are confident of their victory, however, the ruling group BMP may face difficulties as Director of Trade Organization has cancelled some 36 votes. BMP has also claimed that they have got permission for casting some 13 votes from Balochistan High Court, however, UBG has dismissed this claim.
Khalid Tawab of UBG and Nasir Hayat Mango of BMP are contesting for the slot of President. Both are strong candidates and stiff competition is expected.
From UBG, Rauf Mukhtar - Rahim Yar Khan is contesting for Senior Vice President, Nasir Mansoor Qureshi is Candidate for Vice President ICT Chamber, Lali Shah is Candidate for Vice President KPK Chamber, M Muhammad Nawaz Mandoori is Candidate for Vice President Small Chamber, Raja Muhammad Anwar is for Vice President Punjab Chamber and Muhammad Amir is candidate for Vice President Balochistan Chamber.
From BMP panel, Shahzaib Akram is contesting for Senior Vice President, while Athar Sultan Chawla, Muhammad Hanif Lakhani, Ch Muhammad Saleem, Aamir Anwar, Zahid Shah, Nasir Khan, Qurban Ali and Salman Elahi Malik are candidates for Vice President.
This year, a group led by Mian Zahid Hussain has left the BMP and befriended UBG for this election and aggressively participated in the election campaign.
