Korangi, Nazimabad: KE removes illegal kunda connections
KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) continued its drive against illegal connections across Karachi.
In Korangi, KE successfully removed over 2,000 illegal hook connections from KDA Employees Society. An illegal underground network was also dismantled which was used for water boring from Jalalabad in Nazimabad.
The illegal connections, or kundas, weighing 1,700 kilograms, were taken down despite resistance from the local kunda mafia. The un-permitted connections, which are hazardous and pose a danger to the surrounding area, were placed onto Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) located within the industrial area of Korangi.
In a separate drive in Jalalabad, located in Nazimabad, KE teams removed illegal underground and overhead cables weighing 232 kilograms, along with unauthorized electrical equipment. Approximately 62 kW electrical loads were used for illegal water boring in the area. Notices have been served to the culprits involved. According to KE spokesperson, “Illegal connections and encroachments around power infrastructure are major public safety hazards.” —PR
