ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee of the allottees of Sector G-14 on Wednesday strongly condemned the government’s decision to postpone operation to clear sector G-14 from the illegal occupation of land mafia and warned to protest outside Prime Minister’s Office if the possession of the plots was not handed over to the allottees.

The Executive Committee met under the chair of its President Sardar Irshad. Vice President Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry, Secretary Munir Ahmad, Legal Advisor Advocate Mudassar Latif Abbasi and committee members also attended the meeting.

The meeting attendees said that a grand operation was planned by Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) to clear sector G-14 from possession of land mafia and other illegal occupants but that operation was postponed on the intervention of top government officials.

At the meeting, the allottees said that out of 3000 allottees of sector G-14, more than 1000 have passed away in their quest to get the possession of plots while remaining ones are wandering from pillar to post for the redressal of their grievances.

The allottees said Prime Minister Imran Khan recently announced zero tolerance against land mafia but there was no action on ground to take on this mafia that was operating in the heart of Islamabad by occupying a prime sector.

The meeting attendees also said it was the vision of the PM to build five million houses during this government’s term in power but people were being deprived of shelter by getting denied the possession of their own plots.

The Executive Committee announced holding protest outside Prime Minister’s Office if their grievances were not addressed.

More than 3,000 government employees were allotted land in sector G-14 in the year 2004, and they paid all the pending instalments to get possession of the land. However, the possession of this land was never given to the allottees as various groups in G-14 allegedly patronised by the land mafia kept raising the issue of compensation against the possession of the land by carrying out illegal construction in the sector.

On October 12, 2020, Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works expressed strong displeasure over the federal government authorities’ failure to evacuate sector G-14 from the possession of land mafia for the last 16 years, and asked FGEHA and the Ministry of Housing and Works to take steps on mandatory basis to handover the possession of the plots in the said sector to the allottees.

The committee also decided to summon Secretary Interior Yousaf Naseem Khokhar and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Amir Ali Ahmed, in the next meeting, to brief the committee regarding steps to be taken to get Sector G-14 evicted from illegal occupants but the issue is not resolved.
