KARACHI: Khalid Tawab of the United Business Group and Nasir Heyat Mangon of the Businessman Panel (BMP) on Wednesday tied in the election for the President of Federation Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for 2021.
Both the candidates received equal number of votes (178-178) votes. A recount of votes was continuing till filing of this report.
Out of 11 seats of Vice Presidents of FPCCI, Businessman Panel (BMP) won 6 seats while United Business Group (UBG) secured 4 seats. For the capital seat of vice president, it was also a tied election. Overall, some 360 votes were cast during polling.
Shahzeb Akram of BMP won the Senior Vice President’s seat. He got 196 votes while his opponent Adul Rauf Mukhtar obtained 161 votes.
Raja Muhammad Anwar of UBG obtained 28 votes and was elected Vice President for Punjab. His opponent Aamir Anwar got 12 votes. Muhammad Zahid of BMP was elected Vice President (Chamber Class) for KPK. He got 18 votes while his opponent, UBG candidate, received some 8 votes.
Vice President’s seat of Small Chamber was bagged by Muhammad Nawaz of UBG, who secured 9 votes against Muhammad Salman Elahi of BMP’s 8 votes.
Out of four Vice President seats in Association Class, BMP won 3 seats and UBG got one seat of Vice President in Association Class. Mohammad Ather Sultan Chawla of BMP got (139 votes), Muhammad Hanif Lakhani of BMP (120 votes), Chaudhary Muhammad Saleem of BMP (110 votes) were elected Vice Presidents. Out of the fourth seat of Vice President for Association class, Mohammad Arif Yousus Jeewa of UBG was elected vice president with 108 votes.
For the Vice President’s seat for Federal Area and FATA, both the candidates obtained 4 votes each.
Adeel Siddiqi of UBG has already been declared Vice President unopposed on the slot of Sindh Chamber Class. While Farzana Ahmed Ali from Quetta was also elected unopposed for the women’s seat. The Chamber’s slot for Balochistan went to Nasir Khan of BMP, who was also elected unopposed. Ali Raheem, Shahid Waseem and Arshad Khurshid were member of the election committee.
