Indian sugar, soyabean, soyaoil and rapeseed futures extended gains on Thursday after data released by the weather department showed key oilseeds and sugar-growing areas received less-than-normal rainfall even last week. Rainfall in top soyabean growing Madhya Pradesh state was 36 to 75 percent lower than normal, while the key cane-growing region of Maharashtra, the top sugar producer in the country, got 58 percent lower rainfall.
The August soyabean and soyaoil contract on India's National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange hit record highs after the data, while rapeseed and sugar extended gains. India's monsoon rains retreated to below-average levels in the past week, the weather office said on Thursday, after scraping above average the previous week for the first time in this rainy season, keeping overall rainfall under par.
