KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 177,308 tonnes of cargo comprising 120,746 tonnes of import cargo and 56,562 tonnes of export cargo including 8,325 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 120,746 tonnes comprised of 64,867 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,749 tonnes of bulk cargo; 26,683 tonnes of wheat; 2,417 tonnes of soyabean and 20,030 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 56,562 tonnes comprised of 29,908 tonnes of containerised cargo; 18,254 tonnes of clinker and 8,400 tonnes of mill scale.

As many as 8,325 containers comprising of 5,121 containers import and 3,204 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,137 of 20's and 1,537 of 40's loaded while 32 of 20's and 439 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 683 of 20's and 717 of 40's loaded containers while 349 of 20's and 369 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Cosco Belgium, Chesapeake Bay, Mayssan, Tiger Summer, Spinel and Da Xin carrying containers, tanker, clinkers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were four vessels viz. Hyundai Privilege, As Sicilia, Velos Sapphire and Ince Karadeniz carrying containers, tanker and wheat respectively currently at the berths.

There are two ships namely Hyundai Privilege and Isuzu carrying containers and general cargo respectively expected to sail on Thursday.

There are five vessels viz. Xin Pu Dong, Greenwich Bridge, JBU Onyx, Lotta Auerbach and PAC Atena carrying containers, chemical, unit and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Thursday while five vessels viz.

Northern Dexterity, Tommi Ritscher, MT Shalamar, TN Sunrise and Da Cai Yun carrying containers, tanker, petcoke and iron & steel respectively are expected to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 162,580 tonnes comprising 93,963 tonnes of import cargo and 68,617 tonnes of export cargo including 3,555 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 93,963 tonnes includes 36,806 tonnes of coal; 22,590 tonnes of gas oil; 15,510 tonnes of palm oil; 5,900 tonnes of canola; 4,721 tonnes of LPG and 8,436 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 68,617 tonnes includes 7,373 tonnes of rice; 2,135 tonnes of cement and 59,109 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,555 containers comprising of 444 containers import and 3,111 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There were three ships namely Maersk Kensington and Wolverine carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two ships namely Le Havre and Stena Impeacable carrying containers and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eleven ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, rice, coal, canola, chemical, LPG, mogas and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as twenty one vessels viz. Maersk Ahram, Josephine Maersk, Asphalt Express, Fair Partner, Gin Tao, Inca Queen, Bunun Noble, Maud, Aries Sumire, Patmos John, Happy Kestrel, SG Pegasus, Emmaris-2, VSC Posidon, Chipolbrok Sun, Epic Bermuda, Gas Athena, Damos, Wava San Topaz, Corona and AS Orilla carrying containers, bitumen, project cargo, steel coil, talcum powder, coal, wheat, rice, chemical, LPG, mogas and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were seven ships viz. Maersk Ahram, Josephine Maersk, Chipolbrok Sun, Aries Sumire, Patmos John, Al-Rekayyat and Corona carrying containers, project cargo, coal, LNG and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Engro Elengy Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There were two ship namely Josephine Maersk and MSC Pilar carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday while two ships namely CMA CGM Orfeo and Meratus Jayawuaya carrying containers due to arrive on Friday.
