At least two persons 'including a Ranger' received injuries when a powerful bomb planted in a motorcycle went off near Chinese Consulate in the limits of Boat Basin police station. According to SHO Boat Basin, Zulfiqar, the incident took place in the parking lot of Pakistan Institute of Tourism, located in Block-2, Clifton, where an improvised explosive device planted in a bike (KEG-3252) exploded near a Rangers' checkpost, leaving a watchman of the institute, Umar Khan, and a Ranger injured.
The Ranger, who was identified as Irfan, was shifted to a private hospital while the civilian was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment. He said that it was premature to say anything about the blasts, as investigation was under way.
Meanwhile, another bomb planted in a motorcycle parked near the consulate was recovered on Monday night. The bomb disposal squad (BDS) successfully defused the bomb. Following the said recovery, heavy contingent of Rangers and police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire locality. BDS sources said the bomb, having over 4kgs of high explosive materials, was stuffed in a box that was attached to a bike parked near the China Consulate. The bomb was also connected with a detonator. Police said that the bomb was recovered on the information of residents.
