Power situation has become out of control of the Energy Management Cell (EMC), constituted to manage the demand and supply gap, and the situation is again heading to anarchy with growing unrest amongst consumers. Power supply remained suspended for three hours in major parts of Lahore city, Sheikhupura and Kasur with failure of feeder.
Resultantly, grid stations got tripped in major areas including Ghazi Road, Kot Lakhpat, Salamat Pura, Shadbagh, Singh Pura, Johar Town, Green Town, Ravi Town, walled city, Samanabad and Cantonment areas.
The consumers passed through ordeal situation due to power cut off and they kept on cursing the government amidst highly humid weather conditions. Despite the tall claims made by the Federal Minister for Water and Power Ahmed Mukhtar, the power situation is becoming out of control of the energy manager. High pressure on thermal units is resulting into technical faults that lead to further problem for the consumers.
The industrial consumers are equally disturbed over the situation and they are operational with one shift off due to six hours a day scheduled load shedding. However, uncertainty is on the rise on every front. High intensity of the situation could be judged from the fact that the Federal Minister for Water and Power Ahmed Mukhtar is silent over the prevailing situation. He was earlier very vocal on claiming of overcoming power shortfall within days. There was a minor improvement when rains hit central Punjab. However, adversity is gripping the minister fast with increase in humidity in the air due to monsoon.
Also, the EMC is confused over dealing with the situation. They had planned to keep industrial sector out of power supply three hours each during Sehr and Iftar. However, this move proved a big failure, as the domestic consumers are complaining about power breakdowns during Sehr and Iftar. It may be noted that the Prime Minister had directed the concerned ministry to ensure no power failure during Sehr and Iftar. This announcement failed to see daylight and consumers have been complaining of observing Sehr in darkness and facing power outage during Iftar as well. Situation in remote rural areas is ever worst. Power breakdowns in rural areas are abnormally high. No active electronic media is available to cover their ordeal and protests out of uncomfortable situation. The independent circles are of the view that the government was lying about the gap between demand and supply to keep general public into illusion. They said the consumers must be ready to face more difficult situation ahead.
