Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday blasted the government for 'deliberately' delaying writing a letter to Swiss authorities for bringing $60 million back to the national exchequer.
Commenting on the ongoing standoff between the executive and judiciary, PML-N's deputy secretary-general Ahsan Iqbal said that the government was playing 'nefarious games' with the judiciary, parliament and the Constitution by choosing not writing the letter to the Swiss authorities for reopening graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
"The government is upset that President Asif Ali Zardari may be proven guilty in the money laundering case...and he (President Zardari) may become an 'international offender'," he maintained. He said all of judiciary decisions were final and the Prime Minister was neither bound to consult the cabinet nor the cabinet had the mandate to interpret verdicts of the apex court.
The government in its reply to the apex court on Tuesday explained its position that the Prime Minister could not write letter to Swiss Authorities and he is bound to the cabinet decision in this regard. Ahsan said that the government was deliberately using delaying tactics apparently in an attempt to buy time by not implementing the judiciary's verdicts, so that it could complete its tenure without writing the letter to Swiss authorities.
Referring to the law and order situation in Balochistan, the PML-N leader said that the incumbent government paid no attention to resolving pressing problems of that province because of which the security situation was deteriorating. Expressing concern over the Balochistan situation, he said that the security situation in the province had reached a level that prompted the Supreme Court had to term it a 'complete constitutional breakdown'. He warned that the country could face a complete constitutional breakdown if the government did not rectify its policies.
