Karachi Electric Supply Company stated that the extended power outage at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Monday July 23 was due to a fault in the Hospital's own power supply system. The electricity supply network of KESC connecting to the Hospital was 'Normal' and had had no interruption.
The disruption in the power supply at Abbasi Shaheed came about when the internal 1000kva Transformer owned and maintained by the Hospital developed a fault. Initially the Hospital Administration tried to rectify the fault at their end, but being unable to do so, had sought the help of the KESC team. On inspection by the KESC team, it was found that due to lack of maintenance by the Hospital Admin and negligence to keep the Transformer in working condition, it had not only developed a fault but also, in effect, had gone past the state of repair.
Following which the Administrator Karachi requested KESC to intervene and assist in the rectification of the Hospital's internal power failure. Therefore, as a humanitarian gesture and for the welfare of the patients under treatment at the Hospital, KESC provided the Hospital a 1000kva Transformer to restore the power supply which was disrupted due to an internal fault. In addition the KESC team also provided their technical assistance to repair the faulty internal wiring of the Hospital.
KESC expressed its concerns over the prolonged outage at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, which could have been avoided, had the hospital management maintained the power equipment as required. KESC reiterated that there had been no interruption in the power supply to the hospital from its end; in fact being one of the leading hospitals of the city, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital has since long been exempted from load shedding as well.-PR
