Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) is going to initiate a crackdown against encroachment on its land allocated for S-III water supply project. KWSB in this regard has issued letters to all concerned authorities including police and other law enforcement agencies, Anti Encroachment Department of Government of Sindh etc.
Water Board had allocated land near Gulbai for S-III project however; due to the encroachments, the greater sewerage plan has been delayed. In this regards, a combined strategy has been devised with the help of D.I.G (West), Naeem Akhtar Baroka concerned SSP, SSP Encroachment Cell Sindh government, SSP Crime Branch, concerned S.H.O and KMC Encroachment cell.
President Asif Ali Zardari during his recent visit to Karachi instructed Managing Director, Misbahuddin Farid to ensure swift removals of all the hurdles in the development of S-III and K-IV projects. He also directed to complete all the delayed water and sewerage projects on priority basis, in order to ensure better facilities for the citizens of Karachi. Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad taking strict notice of the encroachments on the land allocated for S-III project summoned Chief Secretary Sindh and IG Sindh at Governor House.
Expressing his concerns Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad directed them to ensure full co-operation with Water Board in order to recover the land immediately. According to KWSB, S-III project is vital for the betterment of environment in Karachi as well as improvement in the sewerage facilities. S-III will also control the contamination we are currently dumping in the sea. Approximately 400 million gallons of water are dumped into the sea without any treatment and completion of S-III project will bring down the number significantly.
