ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken ‘serious’ notice of non-redressal of complaints lodged at Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit—PMDU/Pakistan Citizen Portal, following which action has been initiated against ‘non-serious’ and ‘inefficient’ bureaucrats in Punjab.
The action has been initiated on a report submitted by PMDU, according to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Corresponding to this move, Chief Secretary Punjab Jawad Rafique Malik has issued warning to 263 officers, seven officers have been served show cause notices, 833 officers have been directed to be ‘careful’ in discharge of their duties while explanation has been sought from 111 officers, the PMO said on Sunday.
The officers who have been directed to improve their performance include four provincial Secretaries; Secretary Information, Secretary Agriculture, Secretary Irrigation and Secretary Excise, a statement from PMO said.
In addition, 20 Deputy Commissioners appointed in different districts in Punjab including those of Lahore, Gujrat, Sheikhupura and others have also been directed to improve their performance.
Show cause notices have been served to 43 Assistant Commissioners appointed in different areas of Punjab including those of Raiwand, Layyah, Jhang, Bhurewala, Sadiqabad, Nankana Sahib, Pindi Gheb and others.
The PMO said Chief Secretary Punjab has completed the scrutiny of the ‘dashboards’ of 1,586 officers appointed in Punjab.
“The purpose of issuing these warning letters is to caution the officers to improve their performance. Otherwise, they would be proceeded against,” the PMO statement said.
The statement added that steps are being taken to facilitate the public as per the vision of the PM.
The PM had taken notice of non-redressal of public complaints lodged at PMDU/Pakistan Citizen Portal, during a federal cabinet meeting. Some federal ministers had also complained of the non-serious attitude and unsatisfactory performance of several bureaucrats.
The PMO has written a letter to bureaucrats in connection with their unsatisfactory performance related to non-resolution of complaints at Pakistan Citizen Portal.
“Despite stress on provision of proof to citizens, many resolved complaints were found devoid of i.e. letter, notification, picture etc—complaints were dropped on wrong pleas—many complaints were decided at irrelevant/unauthorised level—unnecessary time wasted in submission of just a response to the citizens…..” the letter reads, a copy of which is available with Business Recorder.
It directs all offices of the chief secretaries and inspectors general of police (IGPs) to initially conduct “performance evaluation of the targeted officers’ dashboards—through constitution of a dedicated committee under the chairmanship of an officer not below BPS-20 as per the given ToRs.”
