Hundreds of loadshedding-stricken people on Monday attacked the offices of MEPCO Pak Gate Sub-Division and set the entire record on fire. The police did not reach for the rescue of neighbouring WAPDA men because they were also affectees of the power load shedding.
However, employees managed to save their lives by taking refuge in nearby homes. Baton-wielded youths mostly children were staged a demonstration on Nishat Road, Haram Gate, Pak Gate, Kiri Jamandan and shouted slogans against the WAPDA and the government authorities.
Traders of Circular Road, Akbar Road, Railway Road Khuni Burj, Pak Gate, Haram Gate closed down their shops in protest. Hundreds of citizens also joined the traders. The demonstrators venting their anger raised vociferous slogans against the government and staged a sit-in, which blocked major roads in the city.
Heavy contingent of police reached the spot and controlled the situation. On the assurance of the SSP Operation of resolving the issue, the angry mob and dispersed peacefully. A number of tailors also held a demonstration on LMQ Road because they are unable to stitch the dresses of their customers due to prolonged load shedding.
