Federal Minister for Railways, Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour on Monday asked the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) to give fair electricity share from national power grid station to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, saying that it was totally unjustified to carrying out unscheduled load-shedding in the province despite having huge electricity production share in the centre power distribution system.
Addressing at a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club, he said KPK province was generating a total of 3,136MW electricity, whereas the consumption was nearly 2,800MW, but the province had only received 1,300MW from the national power grid station.
He added that it was totally unjust and unfair to carrying out unscheduled power load-shedding in KPK, which had huge share in generating power in the country. "The step motherly attitude must be stopped and provide their due share from the national grid system", he demanded.
The Federal Minister said the country was producing only 12,000MW whereas the demand was around 18,000MW with hovering shortfall of 5,000MW. "KP has one third share in centre power production system, therefore the federal government should at least provide their due share in the system, he asked.
"We highly protest against the indifference and step motherly attitude used against the KPK", he grumbled. "We lodged a verbal protest against the unjustified move of Wapda, and also ready to tender resignation, if their demand was not accepted, he informed. He said he had taken up the issue with federal government and at centre level about the unfair electricity supply to KPK by Wapda. "We are ready to take to streets and support the peaceful power protesters," he supported, and asked the federal government to provide at least on third share in the centre power distribution, which could be 2100MW as per total production share of KP. He warned that if the federal government would fail to accept their demand then they would decide a future course of action after religious festival Eid-ul-Fitr.
