There is a dire need for adopting fuel saving measures on priority basis for effecting as much saving in fuel consumption as possible in order to keep the ever mounting oil import bill under control and on the lower side to the maximum extent.
This was stated by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lahore-based concern, Future Technologies, Shoaib Ashfaq Qureshi, while talking to a group of journalists here on Wednesday.
He said that adoption of fuel saving measures on priority basis has become very much necessary and inevitable in view of the bitter fact that the country was meeting more than half of its requirements through oil imports from different countries. He said that solution to fuel saving will only be achieved by following International Fuel Saving Standards and Methods. He said global fuel economy standards can help in providing long term road map for achieving much needed fuel saving at the massive level.
He further said that optimisation of the traffic and other related systems and vehicles could result in achieving the solution on both short and long term basis. Shoaib Ashfaq Qureshi said that what we need is to change the mindset of the people, ignore the alteration methods and leave this to the automobile manufacturers to enhance the capability of vehicles by introducing fuel efficient vehicles. He said somehow it is only Pakistan where people are motivated for all sorts of alterations brushing aside the ground realities existing all over the world.
He said throughout the world, various steps have been taken quite effectively towards fuel saving like India Tata Indigo (1300CC) was launched with the market statement of its doing 25 kilometres per litre on city roads. He said that our local manufacturers like Indus Motors, Atlas Honda, and Pak Suzuki have been and are continuously trying to improve on mileage through fuel efficiency and optimisation.
He emphatically said that we have to introduce international standards including mileage labelling making the people aware that what they are going to spend while driving and also top change the habits of the people for using right car for right journey use. The Future Technologies CEO went on to say that the government should offer tax incentives for more economical vehicles and give rebate on using environment friendly green vehicles.
He said there are so many other options on the table which can help in achieving fuel saving on massive scale and the use of new innovative technological products is one of them. He said the Pakistan government needs to build a road map for fuel saving instead of working on day to day kind of solutions. Replying to questions, he said that his concern provide complete road map to the Pakistan govt for achieving fuel saving.
He expressed surprise that electronic media channels try to promote any alteration method without having studied the international standards on fuel saving. He said in fact the media should help in changing the mindset of the people to follow the international standards for fuel saving by changing the consumer behaviour. He maintained that our fuel saving environment friendly equipment is certified and tested for optimisation of vehicles and approved by leading international certification and testing bodies for stabilisation of vehicles for fuel saving.
