Weak monsoon system is likely to trigger drought over the agriculture plains of the country in the three weeks, the Met Office said on Wednesday. The office in its fresh growers advisory said "monsoon currents become weaken cause less rain over monsoonal belt during next two to three weeks. This situation may produce agriculture drought over agriculture plains of the country".
It advised the growers to take timely necessary measures to protect their crops, livestock and other property, keeping in view the current weather condition, and urged the farmers to irrigate the crops as per requirement, as hot and humid weather is expected in southern half parts of the country.
It said farmers of rain-fed areas, who depend on tube-wells should also schedule the irrigation according to the expected weather mentioned above during the next 10 days. During the dry and humid weather in monsoon season, farmers of cotton belt are advised to take in time measures to protect their crop from the pest attacks especially from Melay Bug, Jassid, Thrips and Whitefly, the Office advised.
