On the call of Sindh Bar Council (SBC), lower courts on Thursday remained closed, as legal fraternity observed a strike in protest against the government's contempt of court law. SBC last week made an appeal to the lawyers' community to observe strikes every Thursday across the province to protest the government's move of passing the contempt of court law.
SBC wants the government to reverse its amendments made to the law. The city and session courts including City Court, Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) and National Accountability Court (NAB) remained closed. The legal fraternity has taken exception to the contempt of court law, which it believes, aims at clipping the judiciary's powers. It was the second strike in the province since SBC last week's call. Strikes are likely to continue until the contempt of court law becomes null and void. Lawyers in the lowers courts will not appear to contest their cases.
