Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) Chairman Muhammad Zubair Motiwala said the Khairpur Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) project was supplemented by a dedicated captive power plant which would ensure an uninterrupted power supply to all the enterprises within the zone. This he said while presiding over eighth meeting of KSEZ Steering Committee.
Muhammad Zubair Motiwala said the government had initiated the development of an industrial zone dedicated to the agro industry which would have world class features, amenities comparable with any industrial zone in the international arena. SBI Chairman said, "the zone is being developed in Khairpur district as a future hub for agro-processing and other related industries on a location strategically positioned for proximity to date growing areas, transportation links, and access to labour."
For faster and timely completion of zone strict time lines were given to engineer and contractor, and it was decided to take penal actions, while fields staff was told to hold weekly meetings and report to Steering Committee, he added. NIP CEO Zubair Habib said his department was fully committed for speedy and quality materialisation of all the work being carried out at the site. DC Kahirpur Abbas Baloch said that KSEZ project would provide job opportunities and improve livelihood of local inhabitants.
On this occasion, SBI Director Abdul Azeem Uqaili informed that the federal government had approved the SEZ Act 2012, which guaranteed the investors to receive 10 years tax holiday and one time tax exemption on all capital goods / machinery. Among the others meeting was attended by Project Director Captain Anwaar (retd), Chief Engineer Sepco, representatives of Finance, P&D and Local Government departments.-PR
